Is there a source for this: “AI is used to select which part of the image is best as a preview (for max engagement)”? This is in the Twitter image preview section. I didn’t realize this was a thing and I’d love to learn more about how it works.

It's just a well-known thing. As mentioned in the papers- the algorithms employed saliency cropping (where they try to identify the most important bit). It's not hard to imagine that importance in social media will be conflated with engagement (since it matches both business sense and is easier to measure)

I know a lot of the algorithms for socials were created to optimize engagement but I didn't realize image cropping had so much thought put into it. Found it here: https://arxiv.org/abs/1801.05787

I’m a bit upset I can’t restack images because that first meme is 🔥

That's a good point. Restacking images would be a sick feature. For now, you'll have to copy and paste like a pleb though

Also, what do you like more- my meme making skills or my writing

I have to give this one to the memes. ChatGPT can recreate your writing but the memes are irreplicable (for now).

That's how I'm protecting from the AI revolution

Fantastic summary. I did a co-author bit on the utopian and doomer concept we titled Beware the Binary which resonates with this quite well.
